Pride of Nicollet

401 1st Street S002Web Charm and character exude from this 1922 South Minneapolis classic home. With the owners' iconic yellow planters and perfect paint color choices, we have heard about "that adorable house on Nicollet" for years. After 19 years of meticulous care and dedication to preservation, the owners are moving on to the next stage in their journey and leaving behind a true South Minneapolis gem.

The front porch overlooking MLK park is kept airy and light with white, slim furniture and leather accents. The owners have loved enjoying a morning cup of coffee or a late night cocktail sitting in the cool breeze and illumination of the handmade mason jar lamp. The front door has been kept in wonderful condition and adds to the unyielding original character of the home.

The interior living and dining room are additional testaments to the owners' belief in preservation. All original windows are in perfect condition for 92 years of age while the beautiful fireplace, framed by piano windows, highlights true craftsmanship.

In keeping with the preservation of the home, the owners have updated the kitchen without sacrificing quality or timelessness. The richly stained oak cabinets match the home's corresponding trim work and the antique ice chest provides additional storage and vintage charm. Even modern features like a dishwasher, gas stove, stainless sink/faucet, and updated electrical flow nicely with the home's character.

Three good-sized  bedrooms are rare in South Minneapolis, especially all on one level, but this home provides it all. Each door has original knobs and the homeowners have meticulously planned their furniture and style to match the beauty of their bungalow.

With original tile and a cast iron tub, the bathroom brings modernity paired with history. The owners even built a shelf over the radiator for storage and added a beautiful wood cabinet for linens and incidentals.

Another rare feature in many South Minneapolis homes - a finished and functional basement. This adorable bar serves the best local beers while visitors cheer on our local teams or practice with the in-house band. It's a great space for a multitude of activities - especially during those long winter months.

Enjoy a gorgeous summer evening out on one of two back patios designed and created  by the current owners. With some of the most beautiful oak trees in Minneapolis arching the property, it is the perfect spot for a bonfire or cook out with friends. With a two car garage there is plenty of space for tool and yard toy storage!
